VAW Campaign

On the 23rd of January 2004, 18 members of the SIHA Network met in Djibouti to discuss and plan how to address the issue of Violence against Women in the Horn of Africa. In response to this meeting, SIHA launched its VAW Campaign 2004 – 2008 in Nairobi on the 5th of April 2004.

SIHA members identified some key issues of VAW in relation to the Horn of Africa and these issues have been incorporated into the VAW Campaign 2004 – 2008. The key issues addressed in the campaign are:

• Female Genital Mutilation
   

• Discriminatory Laws
   

• Violence against Women in Armed conflict situations
   

• Abduction
   

• Female Poverty; a cross-cutting issue that affects women and hinders their capacity.
