Membership Criteria
Non-governmental, non-partisan,
organizations with fair representation of Women in their
Governance and management structure in the Horn of Africa are
eligible to apply for membership to the SIHA network.
Non-governmental, non-partisan, gender sensitive organizations
from other regions in Africa can work with the network upon
signing memorandums of understanding or other agreements
SIHA member organization criteria:

An organization
whose membership is at least 50% women

Fair gender
representation in management

Gender equality
mandate and program delivery policies

Programs planned,
monitored and evaluated with gender sensitivity

The organization
should have a written gender policy and gender analysis of
all programs.

All data of any
research must be disaggregated by sex

organizations that have a constituency on the ground to which
they are directly accountable for and interactive and must not
be working for nor possess a stake in the government
A non-governmental,
non-partisan organization applying to join the network must
have:

At least two years
experience working on women’s rights issues

Transparent
governance structure, including rotation of leadership

Written constitution
or by-laws, which include criteria for membership and
monitoring
Applicant organization’s membership and
governing structure must discuss and approve the vision,
mission, strategies, code of conduct, and structure of the SIHA
network. Documentation (with emphasis on audit and annual
reports) of organizations seeking membership will be submitted
to be reviewed by the Secretariat.
Upon completion of documentation, the Secretariat will send
copies of all materials to all member organizations at least two
weeks prior to the next board meeting, new member will pay 100
USD $ immediately following approval.
